May 22, 2010: 

China: added/updated 10 galleries covering a number of reserves in Sichuan and Qinghai provinces (300+ photos in total):  Huanglong, Jiuzhaigou, Wolong (red panda, birds), Siguniang, Taizhangou/Maoniugou, Yilhun Lhatso (blue sheep, white-lipped deer), Sershul (Tibetan woolly hare, birds), Madoi (kiang, Tibetan gazelle, bar-headed geese, ruddy shelduck, black-necked crane, golden eagle, white-tailed eagle, Tibetan wolf), Zadoi (Tibetan fox) and Donggi Tso

Malaysia: added 6 new galleries with 300+ photos from my recent trip to Borneo island: Bako National Park (tidal mangrove forest; mudskippers, fiddler crabs, proboscis monkeys, kingfishers, snakes and very strange insects), Danum Valley Conservation Area (lowland dipterocarp forest;  wild orangutans, colugos, rhinoceros hornbill, frogs, lizards, lantern bugs, camouflaged geckos and insects), Gunung Gading National Park (Rafflesia and Amorphophallus flowers in bloom), Kinabalu National Park (misty mountain forests; birds),  Malua Forest (a forest in regeneration process; night views of leopard cat, civets, slow loris, Bornean pygmy elephant), Semenggoh Nature Reserve (semi-wild orangutans, Prevost's and giant squirrels)

Russia: added new photos to the Komandor Islands gallery (provided by Valeriy Lisovskiy and Dmitry Utkin)

Mar 29, 2009: 

  • Portugal: more photos of great bustards and other species of birds from Castro Verde protected area in Alentejo. I took these photos during the annual great bustard survey - my thanks to the teams of LPN and ICNB who conducted the survey.

  • Portugal: more photos of cranes in Moura / Mourão / Barrancos area.
  • Russia: added photos and text from three reserves in the Russian Far-East: the Komandor Islands, an archipelago full of wildlife located off the Pacific coast east of Kamchatka (photos and text notes provided by Nikolay Pavlov), Lazo, a forest reserve in Primorskiy region, including photos of Amur Goral and the tracks of an Amur Tiger in the snow (photos and text provided by Alexander Myslenkov), and Bureya, in Khabarovsk region (photos and text provided by A. Dumikyan). Also added photos from the Putorana Plateau (provided by V. V. Larin).

  • Russia: Taimyr Nature Reserve, a cluster of protected areas in the far North of Siberia totalling over 2.7 million ha. Text and photos used with permission from Elena Pospelova. Vodlozero National Park, a vast Taiga reserve (500.000 ha), one of the largest forest parks in Europe, in Karelia Republic and Arkhangel'sk region. Text and photos provided by Natalia Gudym.

Nov 22, 2008:  

  • Russia: Kenozero National Park (Arkhangel'sk region). Besides natural features, this park preserves the ancient culture of the Russian North. It includes several old villages with beautiful wooden churches.  Text and photos provided by Alexandra Shatkovskaya.

Nov 15, 2008:  

  • Russia: Lena Delta Nature Reserve, located in the far north of Sakha Republic (Yakutia), where the great Siberian river Lena flows into the Laptev sea in the Arctic Ocean. Text and photos provided by A. Gukov and I. Yakshina

Nov 03, 2008: Website is officially launched, following its first major content update. Added photo galleries for: 

  • Kenya: 300+ photos from the Samburu Complex (Samburu, Buffalo Springs and Shaba National Reserves), including local species and subspecies such as reticulated giraffe, Grevy zebra, Somali ostrich, gerenuk and Beisa oryx, and two Rift Valley lakes full of flamingos: Nakuru and Bogoria.
